Mission

The eLab's mission is to:

• research, design, and produce effective and accessible electronic public spaces for e dialogues, public consultations and collaborations
• produce interactive live and online knowledge media events ( cultural hot spots, live and archive netcasts, collaborative work sessions, and strategic brainstorms);
• provide access to informal training and mutual learning opportunities through a network of human, technical and organizational resources (the virtal links project, S2S survival to sustainability, curriculum engine, eLab moveable feasts, media literacy and media ecology salons, seminars and human resources development);
• research and develop a sustainable online public space network (which we call the Electronic Commons / Agora Électronique) to mobilize meaningful citizen awareness of and participation in digital media/ knowledge society resources;
• develop sustainable partnerships and contracts with diverse public, private and community organization in support of these initiatives.

Vision

The byDesign-eLab is a research, development and production think tank that designs online and ofline environments using old and new media as appropriate, collaborates with all sectors (public, private, academic, civil society, small group) to devise policies and practices for meaningful citizen engagement in all aspects of democratic e governance, and to accelerate the practices and diffusion of media literacies and fluencies in creative content and media expression for all citizens.
